Moobwalk

A Wargrave villager was overcome with emotion after completing the Moonwalk Marathon on Sunday. Charlie Withers was diagnosed with breast cancer in February last year and said when he signed up for the 26-mile overnight walk through London, he wasn't sure he would be around to complete it. The 43-year-old, along with friends Ian Oliver, Bernie Leigh, Peter Gutierrez, and Adam Hale, finished the challenge in Hyde Park at about 8.30am,

Cemetery

Children's graves have been trashed at a Maidenhead cemetery. Toy tractors and other children's playthings were stolen and plants and headstones were vandalised at Braywick Cemetery sometime between Sunday and Wednesday.

There were two reports of graves being targeted but a police spokesman said others may also have been wrecked.

A couple in Maidenhead were treated for smoke inhalation after waking up to find their electric blanket on fire. The man and woman managed to put out the blaze in their bedroom in Woodstock Close at 2.27am today before calling the fire service. Fire crews from Maidenhead attended and treated the couple with oxygen before calling an ambulance. Nicole Targett, Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue spokeswoman, said the fire could have been 'much worse' because there were no smoke alarms in the house.

A messy eater stabbed his housemate in a drunken 'moment of madness' in Slough. Illegal immigrant Jasvir Gill was upset at Balvinder Khakh's complaint about his eating habits. The 27-year-old laid in wait for his 26-year-old victim at their home in Birch Grove on November 26 last year.

Dilara

A shocked kebab van owner is said to be 'devastated' after a fire tore through his van. Crews from Wargrave and Wokingham Road were called to fight the blaze which gutted the Dilara kebab van, parked in the grounds of Hare Hatch Sheeplands in London Road, on Wednesday last week. They were unable to salvage the van which was completed destroyed and police have yet to rule out arson.

 

The family live in Reading but have asked not to be named.

Windsor Girls' School

Radical plans have been put forward to scrap the education system in Windsor to cope with rising future demand for places. Changing the system from three to two tiers is one of three options being suggested by a Royal Borough task and finish group to cope with pressure on senior student provision in the town. Other options include expanding Windsor Boys' School, Windsor Girls' School and Churchmead School in Datchet or building a new co-educational sixth form.

Reigning monarchs from across the globe will be arriving at Windsor Castle today for a diamond jubilee banquet lunch. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and other royals are also expected to join the Queen for the sumptious occasion.
