Locks Ride playground

Families who use an Ascot playground are waging a vehement campaign to try and stop the area from being closed. Campaigners have hit back at claims the noise at Locks Ride Recreation Ground play area is unbearable and say 'Children have the right to play'. Banners have been plastered around the park and supporters are set to flock to it on Sunday from 12-4pm to show their support.

A doctor says stress levels and noise caused by a playground 18 metres from her Ascot home are on par with treating soldiers in the Gulf War. Dr Catherine Bentley-Thomas is among 13 householders criminally prosecuting Winkfield Parish Council for nuisance noise at its £150,000 children's play area in Locks Ride Recreation Ground. She and others vented their anger at Reading Magistrates' Court on Tuesday and Wednesday and are seeking closure of the play facility.

Nasser Hussain meets pupils and headteacher Rachel Owens

A former England cricket captain inspired school pupils in Ascot when he talked about his life on Monday last week. Nasser Hussain OBE was guest speaker at a lecture at St George's School, in Wells Lane, organised by headteacher Rachel Owens. The 44-year-old was captain of the England team for 45 Test matches from 1999 to 2003 and racked up 96 caps - scoring 5,764 runs.
