Plans to build a 'winter wonderland' in Ascot to be decided upon

Plans to build a 'winter wonderland' theme park on Crown Estate land near Swinley Road in Ascot will be decided on later this month.

Bracknell Forest Council's planning committee will meet to discuss Lapland UK's bid to build it opposite Lavender Park Golf Centre in Whitmore Bog.

The proposal was abandoned last year by applicants Mike and Alison Battle following objections, but they came back with revised plans in May.

The couple who set up Lapland in Kent six years ago changed the suggested site, which was outside the greenbelt and used for commercial forestry.

Lapland would attract 30 to 40 families every half an hour over a 25 day period in December.

It would provide 250 seasonal jobs.

The meeting takes place at 7.30pm in the council chamber at Easthampstead House, in Town Square, Bracknell, on August 22.
