A debt counselling charity in Dedworth has revealed its busiest day of the year took place in the town this week.

Christians Against Poverty (CAP), based at All Saints Church in Dedworth Road, said the peak time for people to call for help was on Monday.

The charity says more people tackle their debts at this time of the year after 'lingering Christmas costs compound long-term multiple difficulties'.

New research by CAP found that people said budgeting was their main reason for getting into debt, followed by unemployment and relationship breakdown.

Centre manager Nigel Williams, said he is fully booked up until early March and the appointments are up 25 per cent across the charity.

It found the most common client scenario last year was of a 42-year-old single mum with two children, while their average income in 2011 was £11,207 - down from £11,484 in 2010.
