Charters pupil, 17, to be youngest ever baker on Great British Bake Off
Life has taken on a whole new flavour for 17-year-old Martha Collison who is taking part in this year's Great British Bake Off.
The pupil at Charters School, Charters Road, Sunningdale will be the show's youngest ever baker and will join Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry when the show starts next week.
She has been juggling filming the hit television show with taking her AS level exams - even finding time to become head girl.
Martha said: “Never in a million years did I expect to get through the auditions, let alone onto the programme.
"It has been the best experience of my life and I have loved every minute of it.
"I'm so grateful to the school for allowing me to participate and for all the support they have given me over the last few months. I'm excited and terrified in equal measures at the thought of everyone watching the series.”
Andy Linton, head of year 12 at Charters said: “We are very proud of Martha and delighted she has been given this opportunity to showcase her skills. We are rooting for her and hope she goes a long way in the competition.”
Richard Pilgrim, co-headteacher at Charters School said: “We are all so proud of Martha’s selection for such a prestigious competition.
"She has developed an extraordinary talent over the last few years, as well as a charming character. I think she will be hugely influential in encouraging thousands of other young people to participate in a baking revolution.
"We can’t wait to see how she progresses.”
The new series starts on BBC One on Wednesday, August 6.
