Pupils chosen as London 2012 games markers
Getting up close and personal with the world's top athletes is most young sports lovers' dream.
Now the dream will be coming true this summer for 10 pupils from Charters School in Charters Road, Sunningdale.
They have been chosen as 'young games makers', helping out behind the scenes at the Paralympics Games based in the Olympic Stadium and on the Mall.
They could find themselves doing anything from looking after an athlete's belongings while they are competing, to directing visitors to their seats, even entertaining the crowds in the run up to the events.
The 10 were chosen by the school's PE department, before undergoing tough interviews at London 2012’s head office in Canary Wharf. They had to undergo tests to prove their discipline, maturity, enthusiasm and their ability to work as a team.
Year 12 student Joe Matchan is one of the Young Games Makers. He said: “This is a brilliant opportunity and I’m really enjoying being part of it. I can’t wait for the Paralympics now.”
