Singer David Martin's songs feature in West End show

Singer and songwriter David Martin is all set to burst onto the West End.

A new musical called Bowl of Cherries featuring his songs is opening at London's Charing Cross Theatre on March 6 starring Gary Wilmot and Clare Buckfield.

David, now  62 and a grandfather-of-six, lives in Cedar Drive, Sunningdale. He has sung on chart-topping hits, while having his songs recorded by the likes of Elvis Presley and Barry Manilow.

He said: "The new show was written in reverse around some of my songs.

"It is made up of eight short plays all written by the talented Caroline Pertwee about different aspects of life and relationships."

Meanwhile David's autobiography Rubbing Shoulders is about to hit the bookshops and as if that is not enough, a double CD album of his old songs is being released on January 16.

His book is packed with anecdotes about people he met on the way - people like Cliff Richard, David Essex and Norman Wisdom.
