Cafe Rouge storm to pancake title

Last year's Windsor Pancake Race
Last year's Windsor Pancake Race

Skilful pancake flippers from Cafe Rouge walked off with bragging rights in the seventh Windsor and Eton Flipping Pancake Challenge.

The age-old Shrove Tuesday event today saw 13 teams of four tossing pancakes in a 50-metre long relay race in the Windsor Royal Shopping Centre.

A sizeable crowd watched as Cafe Rouge won gold and the coveted Frying Pan Trophy, after cruising to the title beating Leap Frog in a fiercely contested final.

Second place and silver went to Caleys Cake Crew and bronze went to Nando's, while Spike from the community warden team won the mascot race.

This year's theme was the 15th century housewife with teams entering having to don a skirt, apron, headscarf and frying pan.

The Best Dressed Trophy was jointly won by the Sir Christopher Wren Hotel and Castle Hotel after judges were unable to separate them.

More than £500 was raised through sponsorship, which will go towards the diamond jubilee monument and the Windsor and Eton Christmas lights appeal.

The challenge was organised by the Windsor and Eton Town Partnership and Royal Borough mayor Ashgar Majeed handed medals out and started races.

See this week's Windsor Express for all the photos from the event.
