Irish state visit rehearsals held in Windsor

Rehearsals have been taking place in Windsor this morning ahead of next week's historic state visit.

State visit rehearsal

Irish president Michael D Higgins and his wife Sabina are due to meet with the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh in the town on Tuesday as part of the first ever state visit to the UK by an Irish head of state.

They will be welcomed at a specially-built pavilion at Datchet Road, and afterwards there will be the traditional carriage procession through the streets to Windsor Castle.

Today the Royal Household Cavalry, the Blues and Royals Band, Thames Valley Police's mounted section and more were out practising along the processional route, which will include Datchet Road, Thames Street, High Street, Park Street and the Long Walk to Windsor Castle.
