Boyne Hill secured a convincing four-wicket victory over TVL Division 1 rivals Gerrards Cross on Saturday with a fine team performance.
On another hot day Hill lost the toss and were asked to field, and although Alex Bartlett took an early wicket, Cross made use of the good batting conditions as Jas Grewal (64) and Dan Hampton (62) added 111 for the second wicket in good time.
With Mark Firth unavailable, the Hill spin attack then did a fine job with Hamid Riaz (4-51 from 12), Chris Shave (2-53 from 12) and Tom Mellor (2-62 from 14) keeping the run rate in check. Hill also took a number of decent catches to restrict Gerrards Cross to 256-9 from 52 overs.
In reply Hill lost the prolific Matt Leipold in the second over, but Josh Roguski (44) and Chris Shave – with his first league half century for the club – added 120 for the second wicket in good time to put Hill in the box seat.
Riaz then joined Shave in another good stand of 79 before Shave was caught and bowled for 97, missing a deserved ton.
Riaz pushed on to a fine 67 including three big sixes and despite a late flurry of wickets Ollie Clayson (22 not out) ensured there were no alarms as Boyne Hill strolled home with more than five overs to spare.
Elliot Green (6-109) took all the wickets for Gerrards Cross despite going at more than seven runs per over.
Boyne Hill, who have moved up to fourth in the table, are away to struggling Henley 2nds on Saturday.
The Hill have lost just one of their last six matches while second-bottom Henley have lost four times in the same period.
