Wartime music rang out around a community centre in Dedworth as visitors celebrated VE Day.

The Spencer Denney Centre, in Park Corner, welcomed 36 members through its doors on Thursday, May 4, as they held an early party to mark the day the Second World War ended in Europe.

Partygoers listened to music by American big band musician Glenn Miller before Craig Backhouse, a sergeant for the Coldstream Guards, gave a talk about the Windsor-based regiment’s history.

Lisa Kimber, community champion for Tesco’s Dedworth Road store, helped organise the event.

She said: “I do a lot of work with the Spencer Denney Centre and I just felt that celebrating VE Day was something we hadn’t really done before.

“I come from a military background as well and it was really great to hear from Craig about his experiences with the Coldstream Guards.”
