A year to remember for para-canoeist Jeanette Chippington was capped off with the prestigious Get Berkshire Active Sports Personality of the Year Award on Friday.
Chippington won gold at the Rio Paralympics some 20 years after claiming her first paralympic medal in the pool as a swimmer, making her one of the country’s most successful athletes of all time.
The member of Longridge Boat Club in Marlow claimed her third gold medal for Great Britain and her 13th paralympic medal overall after crossing the finish line split seconds in front of her rivals on the Lagoa Lake in Rio.
The Maidenhead athlete was presented with her honour at the fifth annual Get Berkshire Active awards ceremony held in Reading.
Cox Green School pupil Katie Crowhurst, 12, was also successful scooping the Junior Sports Personality of the Year award after a season which saw her break a British record.
The visually impaired swimmer, who is part of GB Swimming’s Para-Academy, broke the record for the 200m butterfly at the Buckinghamshire County Swimming Championships at the Magnet Leisure Centre last year.
The Get Berkshire Active awards not only recognise sporting excellence, but also those who make sport or physical activity happen in the community.
