A camel, a stag, a banana and a Lego brick all turned out to add colour to the Flippin' Windsor and Eton Pancake Challenge 2014 on Tuesday.

A total of 19 teams of four raced in relay down the main concourse at Windsor Royal Shopping, tossing their 'pancakes' as they went.

Traditional pancake racing gear for a 15th century housewife was the order of the day: a headscarf, apron and skirt. Unless, of course, you are panto star Kevin Cruise, who was accompanied by the camel as he raced with the Theatre Royal team.

He is performing his comedy cabaret show there on Sunday.

The race winners were the Rouge Team from Cafe Rouge, who scooped the gold medal.

The Waitrose Wenches from Waitrose won silver. The Hoof Hearted team from Windsor Racecourse won bronze, while the Horse Show Hoofers from Horse Power was the best dressed team and Bananarama from Royal Borough Fairtrade won best mascot.

Representing the Windsor Eggs-press were reporters Francis Batt, Hannah Crouch, Lucy Golding and Lucy Elder.

Town centre manager Paul Roach was pleased with the turnout. He said: "It was great to see so many businesses come out and support a good cause. They showed that businesses are not all about making profit but supporting the local community."

He thanked everyone who helped make the event possible.Money raised will be split between the Royal Borough Flood Relief Fund and the Windsor Christmas lights.
