WSEH AC were runaway winners of the Southern Athletics League at Bracknell last weekend, winning by more than 50 points from their closest challengers Woking.
The club collected 430 points from the various events, with Woking the next best on 377 points. Maidenhead Athletic Club were also represented at the event in smaller numbers and picked up 70 points.
Giovanni Sealy won the first sprint event, the 100m in 11.24 seconds, with Harriet Jones taking the honours in the ladies’ race in 12.15. Brogan McAfferty completed a club double by winning the B race in 12.67. Sealy then completed his own double by winning the 200m in a new personal best (pb) of 22.51.
One of the club’s longer-serving members, Dan Brookling, won the 800m in a pb of 1.56.02 and there was double success in the 3,000m with Tom Chandler winning the A string in 9.06.6 and Oliver Emment winning the B race in 9.17.91. Danni Barnes-Heeney was also victorious in the 5,000m in a time of 18.45.91. Seb Cirillo led the way to claim victory in the 3,000m steeplechase in 10.17.29 and Harriet Jones registered her second victory of the day in the 100m hurdles in 14.66. Callum McKay repeated that feat in the 110m hurdles finishing in 16.20.
Success in the hurdles continued for the women’s team with Havana Sale coming second in the 400m A race in 60.31 and Millicent Russell winning the B race in 70.54.
WSEH finished second in the 4x100m relay in 44.75 while the women won their event in 48.16. Both teams were second in the 4x400m relays.
Jasmine Grosvenor won the ladies high jump with 1.55m while Troy McConville reached a height of 4.30m to win the pole vault, with Kaliska Nowers winning the women’s event with 3.20m. There was also a club double in the long jump thanks to the efforts of Sam Challis with 7.08m and Rico Lionetti, a feat repeated in the men’s triple jump by Paulus Svarauskas (14.21m) and Lionetti (12.15m). In the throwing events Jardae Hodge-Spencer was second in the women’s shot with a new pb of 10.56m and Troy McConville won the men’s discus with a new pb of 37.14m. The hammer brought the club a clean sweet of victories with Ian Botting throwing 47.73m and Luke Norris 44.00m. In the women’s event there were victories for Rachel Denton-Snape with 44.45m and Barbara Norris with 38.80m. The javelin event was also won by Jonah McCafferty with 56.57m.
