Desborough failed to build on their promising start in their final friendly at Wey Valley IBC in Guildford, as the hosts came back to win by 43 shots (149-106).
The visitors might have lost, but in five of the six rinks they went down with a fight, with Barbara Patton, Val Wyatt, Keith Roper, and Dave Webster picking up five shots on the last end to claim the team’s only rink win.
Rink scores: J Monteiro, C Howard, T Buckley, S Stack 14-22; B Patton, V Wyatt, K Roper, D Webster 24-23; J Palmer, K Spracklen, D Cormican, D Perriman 10-31; L Davis, J Elgado, M Essex, R Wyatt 21-30; N Cormican, R Palmer, J McDonnell, B Faulkner 17-21; F Patton, M Buckles, P Winstanley, J Davis 20-22.
Desborough then fell to an agonizing two-shot aggregate defeat in the men’s Over 60’s Double Rink match with Westlecot (32-30).
The three Marks – Harris, Essex and Peachey – together with Andrew Essex bowed out of the Champion of Champions Tournament in Potters Resort, Norfolk, at the semi-final stage having won their round robin matches. They eventually came unstuck in the final four against Nottingham, however, the defeat was difficult to take as Desborough had beaten them earlier in the competition.
