Burnham FC in a buoyant mood after registering back-to-back victories

Burnham registered back-to-back wins for the first time in over a year, as they edged past Abingdon Town in the Supplementary Cup on Tuesday.

Goals from Calvin Morgan and Aaron Jewell, his first since arriving at The Gore, were enough for a 2-1 win, and new manager Paul Shone said there was a nice little vibe about the place ahead of this afternoon's (Saturday) trip to Lydney Town.

Some of the division’s bigger sides have come unstuck at Lydney, so Shone is aware it will be tricky to pick up all three points, but he’s backing his new-look side to do the business once again.

“Regardless of what competition we’re in, I want to win it,” he said.

“Wins build momentum and foundations going forward.

“Survival is the main aim this season, but if we can progress in the cup and win it, I want to do that as well.”

The Blues remain bottom, but Shone is confident they’ll win four or five more matches to stay up.

“We’ll go to Lydney looking to pick up the three points,” he said. “But it’s a tough trip, regardless of what team you are.

“We’ll travel in good confidence after back-to-back wins and I don’t know when the last time Burnham did that.” (January 2017, under Mark Betts and Jon Palmer). If we can get a result it would put pressure on the sides above us in the table. There’s a good little vibe about us at the moment. The players are in a buoyant mood.”
