Burnham suffered their first defeat in three months as they bowed out of the Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy at the hands of Combined Counties outfit Sandhurst Town on Saturday.
The Blues are flying high in the Hellenic League Division 1 East, having moved 14 points clear of closest rivals Thame Rangers in recent weeks. But their run of victories was ended by a 2-0 defeat at Bottom Meadow on Saturday in a tie which the Blues dominated for long periods.
The Combined Counties Division 1 team booked their semi-final spot with two second half goals, the second of which was scored by former Holyport striker Paul Rake.
“There is more than one way to win a football match and the players found that out the hard way on Saturday,” said boss Paul Shone. “We had plenty of possession but that counts for nothing if you don’t put the ball in the back of the net.
“They set out their stall to defend and we conceded from two sloppy goals. We were missing a few players and were down to the bare bones, but we'll learn from it and move on.”
Shone’s Burnham will look to bounce back at AFC Aldersmaston on Saturday.
