Cubs made the most of the sunshine for a hike around Cookham on Saturday.

The trail saw each group stop off at activity points around the village and each team was marked for its teamwork and ability to get each task done.

There were seven different points in total and about 10 teams took part.

One of the stops was at Cookham Dean Quarry where there was a campfire waiting for them.

Lyn Rackley, from Furze Platt Cubs said: “The twist stop is always popular because they get to make a twist – which is similar to a scone – on the fire.”

The 9th Maidenhead Cubs won the hike, followed by 1st Maidenhead in second place and 19th Maidenhead came third.

Gill Hill, assistant district commissioner, said: “All the districts took part but we had to split some teams into two, and each team had about four cubs. We have a mix of activities, some are active and some are more like brain teasers.

“Scouts from the scout groups provide activity bases, this helps the cubs to make a link with the scouts before they are old enough to be scouts.”
