Pinkneys Green CC open the season with comfortable victory

Captain Jake Stokes (middle) celebrates with his teammates.

Pinkneys Green enjoyed a relatively relaxed opening fixture in the Chilterns Cricket League Premier 1 against Little Gaddesden as the Maidenhead-based side came away with a seven wicket victory thanks to an inspired performance from captain Jake Stokes.

Electing to field first Pinkneys Green were clearly in no mood to hang around on Saturday as they dismissed their opponents for 46 with Stokes taking six wickets in an assured bowling display from Pinkneys Green.

Steve Jones provided the sturdiest defence to the Pinkneys Green bowling as he opened for Little Gaddesden with 17  but he could add no more as he was caught by Jagsit Dhillon.

From there Pinkneys Green were ruthless, as Stokes bowled Jeremy Fennel (4), Ross Barrington (2) before taking Miles Buesst lbw and Charlie Lupton both for 0. Captain Andre Jordache survived the fearsome bowling adding nine with Paul Kelly being the only other batmans to add to the score line with his five before falling to a Nathan McDonagh catch.

After a cut-throat display in the field, Pinkneys Green top order did not reciprocate in the same manner with the bat in hand as Steve Curlewis (6) was caught by Steve Jones, Sheyan Patel (4) was dismissed lbw while Jack Stemp (0) was bowled by Buesst as Pinkneys Green struggled to find their rhythm against the Gaddesden bowlers.

Luckily for Pinkneys Green the pairing of Dhillon and Uday Tikoo saw out the game undefeated as Dhillon added seven runs after impressing in the field while Tikoo put in the top score of the match with his 27. That, combined with the six extras handed Pinkneys Green the win after just 11 overs of their innings with a score of 50.

On Saturday they travel to local rivals Littlewick Green for a 1pm start.
