Datchet CC keep up the pressure on leaders Henley

Datchet kept up the pressure on Home Counties Division 1 leaders Henley with a six-wicket win over Finchampstead on Saturday.

Initially struggling in the field, second placed Datchet allowed Finch’s top order to make starts, with Gregory Smith (27), Oli Soames (44) and Dan Lincoln (69) all occupying the crease for far longer than captain Steven Naylor would have liked.

But Tom Lambert (3-29) and Max Stevenson (4-35) stuck to their task, helping remove five of Finch’s line-up for single figure scores. Having coasted to 167-3 Finchampstead stuttered, wobbled then collapsed to 225 all out in 56 overs.

On a difficult wicket Datchet also failed to blast out of the blocks, with Joe Barrett (18), Naylor (19) and Vishal Aeri (10) all failing to build on their positive starts.

But this side can bat way down the order and James Morris (54) lit the blue touch paper before Joe Thomas (85no) and Bobby Sher (22no) carried the promotion hopefuls to another comprehensive victory. Victory keeps the side on the coattails of Henley ahead of Saturday’s trip to Aston Rowant.
