ECB pushes back suspension of professional cricket until July 1

The England and Wales Cricket Board have pushed back their suspension of professional cricket until at least July 1 due to COVID-19.

The ECB hopes to see some sort of professional season take place this summer, but is continuing to take advice on the matter from government and health experts. It said continued consultation with broadcast partners would determine the best way to fulfil fixtures both domestically and internationally.

It’s also now likely that any county level matches or regional leagues won’t get underway until at least this point, with many speculating they could return much later, if at all this summer.

Nine rounds of fixtures have already been cancelled in the county championship season, and the Vitality Blast will be pushed back as late in the season as possible to give it the best opportunity of being staged.
