Fantasy football podcast trio score prestigious award

A trio of fantasy football fanatics who created a podcast from a front room in Eton scooped a prize at the prestigious Football Blogging Awards (FBAs).

Back in 2014 Tom Holmes, Ash Kernsworth and Craig Hazell launched their comedy podcast, The Gaffer Tapes, during the World Cup.

Recording from Ash’s front room, they started out with a mere 23 listeners a week but now more than 15,000 people tune in to the show which discusses the popular online football game.

On Thursday, November 18, they saw off competition from The Sun newspaper and legendary comedian Bob Mortimer to win the Judges’ Choice award in the Best Football Podcast category.

Co-presenter Tom, 30, who lives in Sinclair Road, said: “We were sat right at the back so I thought there was no chance we were going to win.

“They called out our names and by the time I got to the front my shirt was untucked and I couldn’t breathe.

“We had an acceptance speech ready but that went out the window.”

The ceremony took place at Manchester United’s Old Trafford stadium.
