Flackwell Heath cool Oxhey Jets to cruise into next round of the FA Cup

Tom Burton

Oxhey Jets 0, Flackwell Heath 4

Flackwell Heath crused past Hertfordshire based Oxhey Jets to book their place in the next round of the FA Cup on Saturday.

Before the game the Jets unveiled a new stand in memory of one of their players, Garry Beadle, who tragically lost his life earlier in the year.

Both sides gave away possession cheaply in the opening minutes but it was Marcus Richardson’s men who struck the decisive first blow, Josh Edwards burying his header from Josh Baines’ corner. Young Ashley Howell picked up where he left off against Holmer Green to net the second eight minutes later, collecting Edwards pass before skinning his defender to coolly slot home.

Jack Taylor thought he’d marked his 50th appearance for the Heathens with a goal when he found the back of the Jets’ net just before the half-hour mark, but his celebrations were cut short by the linesman’s flag.

The Jets were rattled and returned for the second half with renewed vigour. Their centre half should have grabbed a goal back when he fired wide from just wide from just five yards out, but Heath survived before settling the contest in the final minutes.

Mo Ceesay – who had a blinder for the visitors – headed home to take the game away from the Jets in the 85th minute before Muzinga, one of Richardson’s second half substitutes, played in Leuis Sinclair who smartly lifted home the fourth.

The Heathens will play Milton Keynes based side Newport Pagnell FC away from home in the Preliminary Round on Saturday, August 24. Pagnell breezed past Cheltenham Saracens 6-2 on Saturday. Flackwell netted £2.250 for their efforts on Saturday.

Flackwell Heath: Watkins, Gray (Ushiro-Lumb ‘26), Gregory, Burrell, Ceesay, Edwards, Baines ©,Taylor, Sinclair, Howell (Muzinga ‘80), Weekes (Layne ‘61).
