Marlow United FC manager James Pritchard was happy with his sides cup final win and believes it was the best possible conclusion to a ‘rollercoaster’ season.
The Flying Blues added the BTC Cup to their Thames Valley Premier League title last week after coming from a goal down against Mortimer Village at Reading’s Madejski stadium to turn things around thanks to goals from Chris Hurst and Qwam Thomas.
“It’s sort of concluded our rollercoaster of a season,” said Pritchard
“It was a challenging league campaign and the Berks and Bucks Trophy exploits as well. It was a crazy ride but an enjoyable one.”
The final proved to be a back and forth game with Thomas popping up five minutes from time to decide the fixture with a looping free-kick that avoided everyone before nestling into the far corner.
“Qwam (Thomas) will probably tell you he meant to cross it,” joked Pritchard.
“We were more than familiar with Mortimer - We’ve played them twice in the league and once in the cup and they were all close affairs,”
“But I thought we deserved it – we had the upper hand and going into the latter stages we were the better team.
“The last 20 minutes we were stronger and it was a case of if we could break them down.
“It was one of those games – it’s a superb ground, a former Premier league ground and the game just flies past. When I was told that there was only five minutes left I thought ‘alright lets go on and win this’.”
The result caps a magnificent debut season for Pritchard in the Marlow dugout, claiming a league and cup double as well as a narrowly missing out on a potential treble after losing the Berks and Bucks Trophy on penalties. But the Flying Blues boss was more than happy this season endeavours.
“If you’d have offered me everything we had this season – coming into a new club, with new player- I would have taken your hand off.
“Winning the league was my priority – I think you always have to win your league. The Berks and Bucks Cup is what is and penalties are always a lottery.
“But for the league cup, I thought we deserved it.”
