Three goals in six minutes helped Marlow Men’s 1sts to a 6-0 win and saw them gain redemption for last year’s 5-1 defeat at the hands of Newbury & Thatcham.
Hosts Newbury pressed with intensity and purpose in the early stages but goals from Chris Sewell, Calum White and Josh Morgans put the visitors firmly in the driving seat.
It got worse for Newbury as Sewell bagged his second within a minute of the restart and moments later Luke Stone netted to make it 5-0.
New dad Sam Burroughs then delivered a pinpoint cross for Matt Bilsland to tap in with five minutes to play. Man-of-the-match went to Max Charner Davis in goal for his second clean sheet on the spin.
Marlow sit three points clear at the top of the table and go to Reading this weekend.
Marlow’s 2nd team lost for the first time at home since March 2019 after going down 2-1 to local rivals Wycombe 1sts.
Marlow created some decent chances in a nervy opening by both sides, but it was Wycombe who took the lead. They moved the ball cleverly around the D and slotted home after an initial save from Will Hunter.
But the home side hit back when Cadinouche hit a shot that was turned into the roof of the net by Adam Boyden. Both teams pressed for a winner in the second period but, with the hosts down to 10 men after a green card, it was Wycombe who took that opportunity to seal three points.
Other results saw the 3rds draw 2-2 away with Newbury & Thatcham 3rds, the 4ths draw 2-2 at home with West Hampstead 5ths, the 5ths beat West Hampstead 6ths 5-1 away and the 6ths draw 1-1 at home with Aylesbury 4ths. The Strollers beat Tonbridge Vets 5-0.
Top-of-the-table Witney stunned Marlow with three first half goals as they ran out 4-1 winners at Pound Lane.
The Reds soaked up the pressure well in the early stages, but Witney grabbed their first goal from a penalty corner after 26 minutes and scored twice more before the break to all but wrap up the points.
Marlow regrouped at half-time and pulled a goal back in the 61st minute when Hannah Dring turned on a dime to launch the ball into the backboard, but Witney responded within four minutes, getting their fourth goal from another penalty corner.
Other ladies’ results saw the 2nds beat Oxford 2nds 2-0 at home, the 3rds lose 3-2 at home to Maidenhead 2nds, the 4ths beat Maidenhead 3rds 5-0 at home and the 5ths lose 4-3 away to Oxford 5ths. The 6ths beat Sonning 6ths 3-0 at home and the 7ths ran out 4-0 winners over Amersham & Chalfont 7ths at home.
