BCA sports students nominated for Football in Berkshire award following fundraising efforts during lockdown

Berkshire College of Agriculture (BCA) Sports students have been nominated for a Football in Berkshire award following their efforts to raise money for MacMillan Cancer Support during lockdown.

Throughout April, a group of 11 Level 3 Sports Studies students from the college encouraged others to keep active during lockdown with an innovative football skills challenge.

Entrants were encouraged to upload 60-second videos of their best football skills to either Instagram of Twitter and the group then selected two winning entrants from an under 15s and over 15s category. The submissions were shared by the college’s football academy partner, Maidenhead United, on their social media channels and a combined audience of more than 16,000 people watched the tricks.

One of the group, Jess, explained: “We were keen to set an activity that people could get involved with from the safety of their own homes and gardens during this strange time.

“We also wanted to raise funds for a charity close to all of our hearts. The BCA Skills Challenge was the result.”

The students have so far raised an impressive £385 through their GoFundMe page, a whopping £285 over their original target of £100.

And their charity efforts have not gone unnoticed with Football in Berkshire nominating them for a Berkshire Football Award in their ‘best isolation engagement campaign or content’ category. The students will discover if they’ve been successful at an awards event on June 17.

It’s not too late to donate to their cause either. The GoFundMe page is still active at
