Greenwood hopes to see Maidenhead's sports clubs forge closer ties and push each other to greater successes

Will Greenwood has said he hopes to see the town’s two main sports clubs forge closer ties in future and support each other to greater successes.

Both Maidenhead RFC and Maidenhead United FC are enjoying successful periods in their respective histories, but Greenwood would like to see them banding together to create ‘a little Maidenhead mob’, capable of lifting each other to even greater heights.

It could start from supporting each other’s events, but Greenwood also believes the clubs could learn a great deal from each other on the field as well. He added that anyone who doesn’t think that’s the case is ‘a luddite.’

“Why aren’t we helping each other out?” said Greenwood.

“If we’ve got an event on, I’ll be brassed off if the football club aren’t there. We’ve got to be a little Maidenhead mob, backing each other and helping each other out.

“The invitation is there. It’s also there for Maidenhead United’s fitness guy to come down and take a training session with our lads. I’ll go and do a session with their lads. They could come and have a drink with our lads or invite us down to the club. That’s just me thinking off the top of my head.

“The powers that be should try to make this happen. We’re not Manchester United and the Exeter Chiefs. We’re Maidenhead United and Maidenhead Rugby Club and we all need to scrap for dollars.

“We’re a keen progressive club, we do some daft things in training sometimes. We’re not afraid of trying things and failing. We know that at times we’ll play like a bunch of nails and we also know that we’re getting better.

“100 per cent we can learn from one another. If anyone says you can’t then they’re a luddite. You’ve got to have your head under a rock. I just try to keep filling the brain up with new ideas and techniques.

“It’s a pretty s***ty time for a lot of people, but this period will pass.”
