Maidenhead United Women’s left-back Megan Halfacree believes the club is heading in the right direction under boss Nevin Saroya.

To illustrate this the club are unbeaten after four pre-season matches and kept another clean sheet in Sunday’s 3-0 victory over Oxford City Women.

The 21-year-old has established herself as a key member of the side and was voted the Young Female Player of the Year by Football In Berkshire following her performances last season.

Looking ahead to the new FA Women’s National League campaign, Megan said: “We are definitely heading in the right direction. I thought it was a big improvement on the Ascot game (which the Magpies drew 2-2).

“We pressed a lot better as a team and communication was better. We could have scored more goals, but the end product will come if we keep creating chances.”

With Sarah Thompson returning to the team’s defence for the trip to Oxford on Sunday, Maidenhead kept their second clean sheet in four friendlies as Natalie Barnes, Jade Chhokar and Steph Nelson found the net to clinch the 3-0 win. Megan also watched her idol, England full-back Lucy Bronze, lift the Champions League with Lyon to cap an excellent weekend.

She added: “It’s so good to have Sarah back. We still have Gemma (Bloor) to come back so it is good to have three centre backs all fighting to get a game. This will help everyone.

“I’m not really sure what changed since Christmas time, but I am enjoying playing so much more now and I don’t put so much pressure on myself. We are all trying to get each other to believe in ourselves a bit more so I am trying to do my bit to lift everyone up. I think Alex (Dover) and Amy (Saunders) are great captains, but it helps to have not just one or two people on the pitch communicating and encouraging. The bond we have as a team is amazing, I think everyone has settled in so well.”
