Maidenhead United Women 2,
Chesham United Women 3
Maidenhead United Women were defeated in heart-breaking fashion at the death against a Chesham United side who came from behind twice to win at York Road on Tuesday night.
The match was played behind closed doors due to current COVID-19 regulations, however the club arranged a pilot 'Live Stream' of this thrilling FA Women's National League fixture which drew an online audience of more than 160 viewers.
Those watching at home were treated to a cracker of a match. The sides exchanged goals scored from distance in the opening quarter hour of the game. Natalie Barnes opened the scoring for Maidenhead with an exquisite lob before Kirsty Gladwin's effort from range deceived Magpies 'keeper Nina Merritt.
Merritt denied prolific Generals forward Gemma Fraser and Jade Chhokar saw her goalbound chip headed off the line by a Chesham defender before the Magpies edged ahead again in the second period. A dangerous cross from Megan Halfacree was headed past her own 'keeper by visiting defender Riva Casley.
But a Generals team which defeated Maidenhead 4-0 in the only encounter between the sides last season hit back late on. Firstly, Emma Delves tucked home from close range at the end of a flowing move and then deep into time added on - with the Magpies perhaps looking more likely to nick it - the visitors took the spoils thanks to Anneka Nuttall's dipping shot from the edge of the box.
Nevin Saroya's improving side will go again on Sunday, October 4 when they entertain Swindon Town at Chalfont St Peter FC in a 2pm kick off in a match which will be open to spectators.
MUWFC: Merritt, Barrett, Halfacree, Saunders, Malhotra, Thompson, Mace (Sub Carty-Duhaney), Carvill, Barnes, Chhokar, O'Brien. Subs not used: Nelson, East, Bloor, Thorne.
