Youth football: Magpies Juniors produce football as bright as the weather

Maidenhead United Juniors

Some of the football played by Maidenhead United Juniors this weekend was as bright as the weather, as the second – and in some cases, third – week of competitive football passed with some excellent performances.

U9 Juniors had a good day against S4K. POTM went to Eduardo. Meanwhile U9 Braves POTM went to George who scored a couple of lovely goals and helped his team mates throughout whilst U9 Whites Players’ POTM went to Stan for his hat trick and all round work rate with manager’s POTM going to Finley for his battling in midfield.

U10 Colts played away to Burnham Tiger Whites. Coach Matt reports: “Colts had to think about ways round a packed defence with a few players ideas a bit rusty and resorting to kicking it straight back to the opposition. POTM was Jack for a team role, disciplined to hold in midfield against the counter attack threat.”

Coach Wayne stated that U10 Blacks “Probably played the best football of their lives against a strong Ascot United team. A massively impressive performance from all the boys which made me so proud, and made it extremely difficult to pick a Player of the Match, but Oli (pictured) had to take it due to his well-earned hat trick.”

U11 Whites played Tedlothian Tigers. Coach Raj reflected: “After not putting away a few chances we went behind.

“From there the boys were just that bit quicker to each ball. Second half was a masterpiece of great defending led by Jasper and Patryk and fast paced attacking with Jack scoring his first goal for the team, Ony scoring again after a hat-trick the week before and Yuvraj proving unstoppable for their defence, scoring 4 goals.

So proud of the team and their grit.”

Thames Valley Development League

A near full set of fixtures were played in the u12s section of the Thames Valley Football Development League on Sunday with the Burnham Juniors Sabres Yellow convincingly beating the Golden Eagles 8-4.

There was an even more resounding win for Slough Town Juniors who thrashed Harefield United Youth 7-0.

In Division 2 Berkshire Elite beat FC Holyport 5-3 in a competitive clash. Elite stormed into an early 4-0 but Holyport clawed their way back into contention with three goals of their own, the third coming from the penalty spot shortly after the interval. However, Holyport tired in the latter stages and Elite were able to give themselves a two-goal cushion after scoring from a well-worked move.

In the other Division 2 game Thames Valley Youth won a nail-biter 4-3 away at Townmead.

There was a solid 2-0 away win for FC Cippenham Leopards at Frontline in Division 3, with the Golden Eagles Flyers also beating Maidenhead United Cobras 3-1.

Maidenhead Boys & Girls FC

Maidenhead Boys & Girls FC u18s Santos were mauled by the Marlow United Lions this weekend, losing 2-1 away in EBFA Division 3, group 6.

At u17s level there was a heavy defeat for club, with the boys’ side going down 12-2 at home to Hawley Youth Raiders in EBFA Division 3, group 3.

The u16s Cobras convincingly beat Burghfield 4-1 at home in EBFA Division 3, group 7, and all the goals were scored in the second half as the u15s Colts were beaten 2-1 at home by Finchampstead Dynamos. Declan Pinto was on target for the side and Ben Thompson was named player of the match.

There was a thumping 7-1 away win for the u14s Sharks over Whitegrove and Warfield Saints in Division 3, group 14 but the u13s Dolphins slipped up, losing 3-2 away to Old Windsor Tigers Reds in Division 3, group 6. At the same age level the u13s Foxes beat Wargrave Wolves Reds by the odd goal in 11 in Division 3, group 11 while the u13s Panthers proved too strong for Berks County Swords, winning 14-5 in Division 3, group 12.

The u12s Dragons lost 4-1 against Whiteknights Blues in BYDL Division 1 and the u12s Jaguars drew 1-1 with Caversham AFC Dragons in Division 2.

Eden Brooke headed home the game’s only goal as the u12s girls defeated Tilehurst Panthers Reds in BCGFL Division 1. The u13s girls scored all three of their goals in the second half as they beat Tilehurst Panthers Reds 3-0 away in Division 1.

Charlie Potter netted twice as the u15s girls won 5-3 away at Tilehurst Panthers Reds, with Hattie Parkinson, Becky Tinnelly and Emily McMaster also on the scoresheet.

At u18s level Rachel Okoro netted what proved a consolation as the girls lost their TVCWFL u18s Division North game 3-1 away to second placed Abingdon United.
