Youth football: Usual ups and downs for Maidenhead United Juniors

Maidenhead United Juniors

There were the usual ups and downs for Maidenhead United Juniors teams in week four of the restarted season.

U12 Cobras played Cippenham Leopards and put in a spirited display with Fabien and the two Bens outstanding from the off and taking the game to their opponents. Cobras defence held together, well marshalled by Josh and Niall and end in at half time all square, with neither side creating a clear cut chance. The second half saw Cobras defence hold firm as Cippenham upped their game and Cobras were under constant pressure for most of the second half. Despite the pressure, Cobras played some useful football to test the Cippenham keeper. Fabien was POTM - outstanding in every aspect of the game.

A proper game of football for the U12 Bullets Green away at Widmer End. Coach Mike summarised: “After two narrow defeats it was great to be on the right side of close score line this week. POTM was James, sitting in a deeper role. Ellis and Pablo looked assured in central defence. Amogh and Tom were as tenacious as ever on the flanks. Seth, in a more advanced role in the second half, Harry, Joe and Mohsin gave width going forward. With George winning tackles and holding the ball well in midfield and James pulling the strings it seemed only a matter of time. It felt like it might be one of those days until a speculative effort from outside the box from James squirmed its way past an unlucky Widmer keeper to give us the lead”.

U12 Stripes Coach Mark complimented his team on: “A very disciplined technical and physical performance against Wendover. Every player stayed focussed and played their position with precision, both individually and as units. The defensive unit of Nishaan, Josh (POTM), Joe and Oscar celebrated a well-earned clean sheet with a combative but composed display.”

Maidenhead Boys & Girls FC

Maidenhead Boys & Girls u13s Panthers came from behind twice to claim a 5-3 away win over Sandhurst Town Royals in Division 3, group 12 at the weekend.

The Panthers went in level at the break after a disappointing and disjointed first half display, but Rowan Sellman’s equaliser from Billy O’Brien’s pass gave them the platform from which to dominate the second half. A good talking to from manager Roland McGill appeared to do the trick, but only after the side had fallen behind again. Callum Marques made some good saves to keep the side in it at 2-1 before they took control in attack and defence. Harry James fired them level from Sellman’s assist and then scored again to make it 3-2. Solo goals from Harry McGill and Sellman, his second of the game, then put the result beyond doubt.

Harry McGill was named man of the match for playing on while injured and scoring a fine goal.

Elsewhere the u18s Santos were beaten 2-1 at home by the Teddington Athletic Sharks in Division 3, group 6. There was a narrow 1-0 away win for the u17s boys over Woodley Saints Lions in Division 3, group 3 and the u16s Cobras enjoyed a 4-1 away win at Spencers Wood Tornados in Division 3, group 7.

Second half goals from Ben Thompson and Declan Pinto helped the u15s Colts to a 2-1 away win at Sandhurst Town Reds in Division 3, group 12. Pinto was named player of the match.

The u13s Dolphins played out an entertaining 3-3 home draw with Rotherfield United in Division 3, group 6 and the u13s Foxes played well in their 7-4 victory over AFC Henley Hotspur in Division 3, group 11.
