Magpies to host Brentford's B side in behind-closed-doors friendly

Having played just twice since the middle of December Maidenhead United have arranged a friendly with Brentford’s B side this week to keep their match fitness ticking over.

The Magpies will host the young Bees at York Road tomorrow (Tuesday, 11.30am kick-off) in a behind-closed-doors friendly ahead of next week’s home fixtures against Chesterfield and new National League leaders FC Halifax Town.

United might not have played much of late but their performances have been promising, with the side beating promotion chasing Bromley 1-0 at home on December 27 before drawing 1-1 at Aldershot Town on Saturday.

The festive and New Year period may have been quiet in comparison to previous seasons; however, a more hectic schedule is just around the corner. The Magpies host second placed Chesterfield on Tuesday week (January 18) before welcoming leaders Halifax to York Road the following Saturday (January 22). They’ll then play two away games in the space of a few days at Stockport County on January 25 and Wrexham on January 29, rounding off the month with four matches in just 11 days.

February looks likely to be just as busy, with the club confirming new dates for its postponed matches with Wealdstone.

United are now set to visit Grosvenor Vale on Tuesday, February 15, with the home game to take place the following month on Tuesday, March 8, 7.45pm kick-off.

Tomorrow’s friendly will also be the young Bees first game of 2022 with the side having ended 2021 in positive fashion with a five-game unbeaten run.

United have also confirmed that on loan goalkeeper James Holden has been recalled by Reading FC.

The BT Sport cameras will also be at York Road next month for the visit of Boreham Wood.

Wood reached the fourth round of the FA Cup on Saturday with an excellent 2-0 win over AFC Wimbledon with former Magpie Adrian Clifton scoring their second goal late on.

He’s not the only ex-Maidenhead player in their ranks with goalkeeper Taye Ashby-Hammond, James Comley and Danilo Orsi-Dadomo also likely to be in contention for the clash with United on Saturday, February 19.

The kick-off has been pushed back to 5.20pm to accommodate the TV cameras.
