Maidenhead United’s Walking Football division celebrated its third consecutive weekend of silverware last month when its Over 60s team secured the Division 3 title.
Bisham Abbey hosted the final round of matches in the Thames Valley Walking Football League Autumn and Winter series on February 22, and the Magpies team went into that final weekend sitting three points behind the league leaders.
They had to try and better the results of South Reading and managed this in magnificent fashion, securing three wins and a draw to pip them for the title and promotion.
The season comprised 16 games and the Magpies won 10 of them, drew four and lost only twice. They scored 20 goals and conceded only eight to finish top of the pile.
The Walking Football division of the club has enjoyed an extremely successful season, with the women’s Over 50s and the men’s Over 50s winning their respective titles earlier in the month.
The Over 60s manager, Steve Brand said: “Sunday's outing saw a convincing 1-0, 1-0, 2-0 wins and 1-1 draw. Our tally for the day could have easily doubled with the number of near misses we had.
“This season has been a turnaround for both the Men’s Over 50s and 60s leagues, and quite rightly everyone is proud of their achievements.”
