In the autumnal sunshine at Horesenden Hill, Cookham Running Club’s juniors excelled in the first North West London Young Athletes meet of the season. Cookham took the largest contingent of athletes to the event, and had teams placed in the top five in all age groups.
Annabel Insley began with victory in the first race of the day, the girls u11s event. She led from the start with the A team finishing third with Honey Fitzgerald, 12th, and Sophia Staveley 22nd. The B team came eighth and the C team were 13th of the 18 teams.
Cara Terry was second in the girls u15s race, with Kensa Horner, 14th, and Zoe Clarke, 15th, helping the team finish second overall.
Superb packing from Siena Brancato, fourth, Jacqueline Heller, sixth and Amelie Taylor, eighth, saw the girls u13s win their team event. That feat was matched by the boys u13s following strong runs from Callum Blezard, sixth, Tom Lebeau, eighth and Tom Ellington, 15th.
Guy Forward was first to finish for Cookham’s u11s boys, who finished fourth in the team event. While Frank McGrath led the boy’s contingent in the u15s race, finishing 13th as the team came fourth overall.
Adam Gambrill was 10th in the u17s men’s race and Beth Murray started her cross country season well with a 13th placed finish in the u17s women’s race. She was closely followed home by Molly Sammes, 16th, as the team finished fifth.
