Cookham Running Club produced some impressive results at the Metropolitan Cross Country League meet on a course which included a disused ski slope.

Some 18 clubs contested the unusual course at Uxbridge for this third league fixture, and Cookham field A, B and C teams in several age groups.

Their best finisher on the day was Stanley Smith, third in the u11s boys race, leading home teammates Ollie Drever, 12th, Fabien Mormech, 13th and newcomer Toby Holmes, 26th. The team came second overall.

There was drama in the u11s girls race, as the leading pack – which included Cookham’s Honey Fitzgerald and Holly McAlpine – were directed the wrong way. But the girls fought back to finish 21st and 23rd respectively. Grace Colley was 32nd and Sophia Stavely 33rd as the team placed a respectable fifth.

Siena Brancato produced a blistering kick finish to beat teammate Jacqueline Heller for seventh spot in the u13s girls race. Asmi Saha, 20th, and Grace Allan , 23rd, completed the A team who were second overall. The B team finished 11th.

Tom Lebeau and Callum Bleazard also battled it out in the closing stages of the u13s boys event, with Lebeau edging the contest to come 11th.

Ben Hearsay wasn’t far behind them in 20th, with Sam Colley 30th. The team were third overall.

In the junior men’s race, combing the u15s and u17s age group, Sammy March was 34th. Ben Reynolds, 40th and Elliot Lowe, 44th finished well to help the team come 10th out of 30 teams. A bad fall hampered Frank McGrath’s progress in the u15s event, but he still managed to finish 15th. Edwin Isted, another faller, was 44th and Callum Du Preez 45th. Cara Terry came sixth in the u15s girls race, with Jemima Ridley placing 11th.

Cookham’s seniors also fared well on the testing course, which included a fast-flowing stream.

Matt Holmes was first home for the club in 40th, followed by Roland Burton, 44th, James Dickinson, 46th and David Ridley, 55th and the team came fifth. Cookham’s senior women, led home by Sandi Isted, came eighth.
