The Windsor and Maidenhead Softball season began with mixed fortunes for its three Maidenhead teams.
Last season's runners-up, the Royals, travelled to a Bracknell Scorchers side making its first ever appearance in the top flight. And it proved to be a comfortable night for the visitors who ran out 23-3 winners. A 12-run third innings for the Royals all but sealed the result but there was little consolation for the Scorchers throughout.
In arguably the game of the weekend in Division 1, the Rebels hosted the TV Typhoons, teams separated by just two places in the 2018 table. A slow burner of a game burst into life in the third innings, as the Rebels took an 8-4 lead, but the Typhoons turned the tables and the Rebels needed five runs to win going into the last. However, after pulling the score back to 14-13, captain Gemma Jones produced a three-run walk off to seal a 15-14 opening day win.
The Rascals began their campaign at home with a 21-7 defeat to TV Hurricanes. Despite the defeat there were plenty of positives for the Rascals with Lee Benaim pitching well in his first league game and Grace Willis striking a debut home run.
