MAC members run through the night in aid of Children In Need

Maidenhead Athletic Club members completed a 24-hour relay in support of Children in Need last week. The event was ‘amazingly successful’ with runners invited to sign up to run for at least an hour over a 24-hour period.

The idea came from MAC member Bethany Sumner who had been inspired by Joe Wicks’ 24-hour workout for the same charity. The idea was that all the time slots were filled with MAC members running, even in the middle of the night.

“Within a very short time all slots had been filled, the middle of the night slots going first,” said Bethany. “With participants pledging donations to Children in Need.

“Most ran in pairs for safety, especially in the middle of the night and to make sure COVID-19 rules were upheld.”

The relay took place between midday on Saturday (November 21) and midday on Sunday (November 22) and more than 70 MC members ran a total of 448miles, raising an impressive £1,356.58 (£1,659.48 with Gift Aid).

“Everyone who took part shared their experiences and photos online and were supported with messages of encouragement that, as always, highlighted MAC’s ethos and camaraderie,” added Bethany. To add to the total visit Bethany’s Virgin Money Giving page
