Frustration builds for Cippenham's B team as results take turn for the worse

There were disappointing results for both of Cippenham’s women’s teams as the British League concluded in Wolverhampton this weekend.

The younger B side started off well enough in Division 4 with a 4-2 win over Stantek Old Spots, with Rachael Iles and Anna Piercey winning their sets to secure victory.

At the same league leaders Ellenborough suffered a surprising loss to St Neots and Cippenham briefly replaced them at the top of the standings and a 3-3 draw against Ellenborough saw them maintain these positions going into the final day.

Iles was Cippenham’s star winning both of her games before Anna Piercey held her nerve in the final match to salvage a 3-3 draw with a win over Rebecca Hurrell.

However, having led the division at the end of stage one, Cippenham B’s form disintegrated as they lost all three of their match matches on Sunday. Strengthened by a couple of new players, St Neots defeated Cippenham 5-1, with only Lucie Bouron getting on the scoresheet with her win over Chloe Pryke.

They then lost 4-2 to Leeds with Piercey and Illes winning their matches, before finishing off with a 4-2 loss in their return match with Ellenborough. Illes scored Cippenham’s only two wins.

Meanwhile Cippenham’s A team endured a difficult weekend in Division 3. Of their five matches they managed two draws and lost the other three to finish bottom of the eight-team division. They finished the first stage with a 4-2 loss to Halton and then drew 3-3 with Sutton at Hone. Mary Heffernan won three of her four matches with Julie Dean winning two.

The second phase started with a 3-3 draw with Graham Spicer Club, but it was followed by defeats against Halton again (4-2) and Sutton at Hone (5-1), with Sue Hayes registering Cippenham’s only success in the final match against Helen Shields.
