Hellenic League: Holyport FC ready to Unite after truncated start to campaign

HOLYPORT: Holyport’s truncated start to the season continued this week with Derek Sweetman’s side given the bank holiday weekend off.

Port have played relatively few league and cup matches so far this campaign, but those they have played have gone pretty well.

In the league they’ve played twice, beating AFC Aldermaston 2-1 in their curtain raiser before showing great spirit to battle back for a 3-3 draw against Chalvey Sports last week.

They’ve also played a couple of Challenge Cup matches, beating Long Crendon on penalties before ousting Didcot Town Development 3-2 away from home.

This Sunday they’re in cup action again, playing at home to Unite MK in the FA Vase, kick-off 3pm.

MARLOW UNITED: Chris Hurst netted a couple of goals against his former club as Marlow United beat Penn & Tylers Green 2-1 on Saturday.

Hurst crashed home from Josh Waldron’s cross in the first half before tapping home the visitors’ second with around 15 minutes to play.

Penn levelled matters when Joe Palmer guided Hamid’s low cross beyond Patridge and into the net.

While the United keeper did well to save at the feet of Hancock as the home side pressed to take the lead.

But Hurst made up for missing a couple of gilt edged chances when he tapped Bushay’s cross over the line in the 75th minute.

United, now up to eighth in Hellenic League Division 1 East, have a 10 day break before entertaining Risborough Rangers at home on Tuesday, September 3.
