Singh Sabha 2, Old Windsor 3
Singh Sabha lost more ground in the race for the EBFL Premier Division as they went down 3-2 to league leaders Old Windsor.
They knew a win was a must but Old Windsor carried on their impressive league form and ran out winners in a fierce contested fixture.
Sabha went into the game on the back of a 4-1 win over the same opposition a week earlier in a cup match but knew it would be a complete different game as they hosted unbeaten Old Windsor in the league.
Sabha went into the game with number of changes from last week and started slowly and within 5 minutes of the game gave away a penalty as Jagdeep Bhullar was adjudged to have bought down the Old Windsor striker.
The team were reduced to 10 men as Bhullar was sin binned for his protest against the ref for awarding the penalty.
Returning Sabha keeper Andrei Tonca however made an impressive save to deny the Old Windsor player from the penalty spot. However from the resulting corner Old Windsor took the lead as the Sabha defence switched off allowing the Old Windsor striker to fire home as he was left unmarked in the box.
Old Windsor were dominating and kept the pressure on but rarely tested the Sabha goal as they fired wide or over.
Sabha had a great chance to level just before half time as a lovely move which saw Karim Chaibi play in Umar Riaz, Riaz then found striker Naheer Nawaf but Nawaf was denied by a fine save by the Old Windsor keeper who pushed his effort onto the post and the danger was cleared. Old Windsor went into break 1-0 up.
2nd half it was more of the same as another poor start from Sabha saw them concede another sloppy goal, day got worse for Bhullar as he deflected home into his own box as he tried to clear an Old Windsor free-kick away.
The nightmare in defence continued as they conceded again as Old Windsor got away on the break and despite a good save from Tonca the ball fell for the on rushing Old Windsor player who fired home.
They reacted well as they got a goal back instantly with Bhullar involved again but this time at the right end as his throw-in found Nawaf who on the turn fired home with his left foot into the bottom corner.
Sabha got more confident and scored again moments later as Old Windsor failed to clear a corner the ball fell to Numaan Khan whose shot was blocked before the rebound was smashed home by Karim Chaibi.
Sabha kept the pressure as Riaz and then Mampreet Randhawa went close. As the game opened up Old Windsor were always dangerous on the counter attack and had chances of their own.
The side was then reduced to 10 men again as keeper Tonca was sin binned, both teams went for it late on but in the Old Windsor held on for the win and continue their 100% record in the league as Sabha now will need to improve if they have any chance of challenging.
Sabha turn their attention to cup competition this Saturday as they host AFC Cressex in the Maidenhead Norfolkian Cup.
