With the weight of expectation on their shoulders, Maidenhead Boys & Girls u13s Girls team went into their final game of the season against Slough Town FC knowing a win or a draw would secure the league title.
In Slough they faced a side who'd had a very good season of their own, but the girls dealt with the pressure of the occasion incredibly well to run out 7-2 winners.
The match at Altwood School in Maidenhead was well contested, but both teams came into it without much match practice, and Maidenhead looked a little ring-rusty when they conceded from a Slough corner after only 60 seconds.
Concerns over how this might affect them were relatively short lived as the girls rallied and scored an equaliser just eight minutes later through Eden Brooke. A second from Eden brought some much-needed calm to the players and the record home crowd of the season.
Both teams found their rhythm as the game progressed, but the hosts were stunned once more when Slough levelled matters two minutes before the half-time whistle.
The setback could have unnerved the girls, but they came out for the second half reinvigorated by the team talk and some tactical changes enabled them to take control of the game.
Eden netted her hat-trick two minutes after the break to restore the home side's lead and they netted four more unanswered goals before the final whistle. Good combination play between Elsie Nicholls and Saravina 'Bina' Qio, saw Bina slot home the fourth before Eden settled the contest with the side's fifth.
Playing with plenty of confidence in the latter stages they stretched their lead with a brace of goals from Elsie while Maggie White kept a second half clean sheet to ensure they won the Berkshire League Division 1 Championship.
