Slough’s Farnham Park complex will host several baseball and softball events, including an elite European tournament, ahead of Major League Baseball’s European debut in London this June.
The ‘legacy’ events, delivered by BaseballSoftballUK and Major League Baseball (MLB), are intended to “create a lasting legacy...of baseball and softball, increased participation in the two sports—especially by children and young people—and increased fan engagement” according to a press release on the BaseballSoftballUK website.
The MLB European Elite Development Tournament, to be held between June 25 and 27 will “feature the 90 best teenage baseball players from 14 different European countries, including Great Britain” and will be attended by scouts from MLB teams.
Coaches and young players from across the UK will also receive expert training from MLB representatives through the MLB Coach Development Programme and the MLB Cadet Camp.
The highly anticipated two-game London Series, between rivals the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees, will take place at London Stadium on June 29 and 30. It will be the first time that Major League Baseball is played on European soil.
Tickets to the series quickly sold out when they were first put on general sale in December, though a limited number have since been released.
BaseballSoftballUK will also host a watch party at Farnham Park’s Home Plate Bar and Kitchen for the game on June 29.
Opened in 2013, Farnham Park is the UK’s only purpose-built facility for baseball and softball.
