The developer behind plans to redevelop the Nicholsons Centre has said it will work with Nicholsons House owners to ensure access is maintained during construction.
Last year, the Royal Borough gave the green light to major plans by Areli to re-develop the Nicholsons Centre to provide a mixed-use development, featuring shops, restaurants, flats, offices and a new multi-storey car park.
However, Nicholsons House, situated at Nicholsons Walk, is not included in the regeneration project and will ‘remain open throughout the construction period’.
The building is home to several services provided by NHS Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
These include the Maidenhead Community Mental Health Team (CMHT), the Older People’s Mental Health Service (OPMH) and the Berkshire Eating Disorder Service for children and young people.
The services are open at Nicholsons House from Monday to Friday, from 8am to 5pm.
In December, tenants of the Nicholsons Centre were informed that the centre is scheduled to close in June to make way for its demolition and re-development. Areli has now provided reassurance that it will work with owners to ‘ensure appropriate access is maintained’ during construction and this will form part of a formal management plan.
A spokesperson for Areli said: “Nicholson House is not included in the redevelopment plans and will remain open throughout the construction period.
“We will work with the owners to ensure that appropriate access is maintained to Nicholsons House throughout the construction period, which will form part of a Construction and Demolition Environmental Management Plan.”
In a statement, Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We are aware of the regeneration of the shopping centre in Maidenhead, but Nicholsons House is not included within these plans.
“Our landlord is coordinating with the centre owners on our behalf to make sure access to NHS services are maintained with minimum disruption.”
