Royal Borough mayor and deputy mayor join Eid al-Adha celebrations in Windsor

The Royal Borough mayor was among around two hundred people of all backgrounds – religious or otherwise – at an Eid al-Adha celebration on Sunday. 

An Eid in Windsor Park was hosted by the Windsor Muslim Association (WMA) in collaboration with the Darul Arqam Academy for all to enjoy the festivities in Dedworth Manor Park. 

An Eid prayer took place from 9am in the New Windsor Community Association (NWCA) building and this was followed by a sermon by the Imam for around 15 to 20 minutes. 

Royal Borough mayor Cllr Simon Bond then gave an Eid greetings message to all those celebrating in the Royal Borough and beyond.

A breakfast from around the world was also enjoyed, with visitors bringing along dishes from an array of cuisines including Middle Eastern and North African. 

The Royal Borough’s deputy mayor Cllr Mandy Brar also attended the event and mingled with guests. 

Election candidates including the Liberal Democrats Julian Tisi, Independent David Buckley (who are both also Royal Borough councillors), and Green Party candidate Michael Boyle were also in attendance and spent time interacting with guests. 

From the Royal Borough councillors Amy Tisi and Helen Price also came to join in the festivities. 

Youngsters were treated to a bouncy castle and also enjoyed free ice cream and chocolate. 

WMA chairman Mohamed Arif said: “[It was an] excellent day, everybody was pleased.”
