Windsor Boys School Boat Club’s junior u15s (J15) squad once again showed their promise with a thrilling victory in the Wallingford Regatta at Dorney Lake.
Following on from their sculling success in the junior regatta at Dorney the previous week, the school’s A and B squads joined forces to take on the might of the private schools. Initially trailing in their heat, they soon found a steady rhythm to reel in their competitors and cross in first place, qualifying them for the final.
A three-hour wait gave the squad time to rest and recuperate before the final, and they needed all the energy they could muster to take gold in the final. They trailed in fourth place after another slow start but the bow of the Windsor boat soon started to close in on the lead as they crossed the 1,250m mark. From that moment on there was only one crew in it as Windsor crossed the finish line almost half a length clear of King’s College School in Wimbledon and The Grange School, Hertfordshire, in third.
The crew featured: Ben Lewin (bow), Marcus Chute, Kyle Macklin, Max Griffin-Sadler, Robert Janssen-Spence, Dhillon McCulley, Dylan James, Charlie Warren (stroke) and Will Parr (cox).
