Maidenhead United Women 'looking at the bigger picture' after Berks and Bucks Cup final postponement

Amy Saunders

Amy Saunders insists she and her teammates are looking at the bigger picture after their Berks and Bucks Cup final against MK Dons was postponed.

Maidenhead United Women were due to face the Dons on Sunday but heeded the precautionary measures imposed by the government and had the tie postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“It is disappointing we haven’t played but sometimes you have to think of the bigger picture.

“Everyone’s health is more important at the end of the day,” said Saunders.

“It will give us a bit more time to prepare and sometimes a break from football makes you realise how much you actually love it.

“It gives you a bit more fight and drive to get back, when and if we do get back.

“Most people in the team will still be doing some form of exercise to try and keep as fit as possible during that time.”

Saunders has also lent her free time to the Magpies In The Community charity and is spending a few hours every week assisting the vulnerable that can’t currently leave their homes.

“You just feel really helpless. I know a lot of the girls feel the same and they’re really proud that the club is doing something to help.

“You just want to help in some way, even it’s a small gesture of some kind. I guess if everyone did something little, it all adds up,” she added.
