Billy Montague (right) bagged a brace to give Windsor FC a 2-1 win over Aylesbury in the FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round on Tuesday night.
The 20-year-old was at his clinical best to help the Royalists navigate their first competitive fixture of the season and secure them a place in the tournament’s next round against Wantage Town.
Inspired by their recent performance, Montague is hopeful his side can go on to impress in the competition and challenge the sides that are steps above the Royalists.
“It’s amazing to be playing in the FA Cup and it’s one of those games you’re always going to be fired up for,” said Montague.
“Aylesbury were a really good side and they had some good individuals but it was just one of those days where we wanted it a little bit more.
“It was our first match back in a competitive environment and everyone worked really hard. The boys were getting round the ball, throwing themselves in front of shots and we defended really well.
“We’ve got Wantage Town in the next round now. Hopefully we can go there to prove that we are one of the top sides in the step five division and nick a result.”
The Royalists will travel to face Southern League Division One Central side Wantage Town next weekend (September 12).
