Flackwell Heath maintained their perfect start in the Hellenic Premier Division after they emerged victorious against Virginia Water on Tuesday night. The Heathens beat their visitors 2-1 after Adam Thomas lashed home a 93rd-minute winner to seal all three points.
The score had been firmly in the balance leading up to the game’s conclusion, after Virginia’s Adam Mills cancelled out Ashley Howell’s first-half opener.
Flackwell move up to fifth place in the table following the win and play bottom-placed Tuffley Rovers next. Virginia Water stay just above the Heathens in fourth.
On Saturday Marcus Richardson’s Heathens brushed aside Rushden & Higham United to move through to the second qualifying round of the FA Vase on Saturday.
It capped off a good week for the club after they overcame local rivals Windsor 1-0 in the Hellenic Premier Division in mid-week.
Chances came and went for the visitors in the opening 20 minutes, while the home side were thwarted by a Flackwell defence well marshalled by James Mansfield.
The Heathens goalkeeper O’Sullivan appeared to get off lightly when he brought down the Rushden centre forward who was through on goal on the half-hour, but, after consulting with his assistant, the referee decided to show lenience and pulled out a yellow card.
Heath then rubbed salt in the wounds by grabbing the game’s first goal in the 42nd minute, Ezio Touray poking the ball home after two scuffed shots were blocked close to the goalline. Josh Baines added the Heathens second from the penalty spot in the 65th minute, a goal which deflated the home side’s hopes and the scoreline was given an unbalanced complexion look when substitute Howell netted a third in the 87th minute and Baines grabbed his second of the afternoon in injury time.
