Burnham batsman Shaan Khan
Nehman Nadeem spearheaded Burnham to victory as they completed a 53-run win against Datchet in Saturday's John Goodman memorial play-off friendly.
At the conclusion of the Home Counties Premier Cricket League, Burnham had finished in a respectable 10th position while Datchet finished just a place below in 11th.
Nadeem’s haul of 102, which comprised of 14 fours and a six, gave Datchet a rude awakening when the play-off match began at 10:30 on Saturday morning. Having won the toss and elected to bat first, Burnham made 265-8 from their 40 overs.
Shaan Khan (53) and Syed Bukhari (52) picked up impressive figures for the hosts while Ben Brookes (2-47) and Oliver Smithson (2-34) were the best of Datchet’s bowlers.
In reply, Joe Barrett (100) was able to pick up a centrury of runs himself from 83 balls before he was adjudged to be lbw from bowler Sulaiman Javed (3-38) who took several wickets.
Datchet’s progress to Burnham’s target was slowed following the batsman’s dismissal with Rahim Akhtar (18), Vishal Aeri (20), Ben Brookes (16) and Sulaiman Akhtar (24) just about capable of picking up double figures for the visitors.
Burnham’s bowling prowess paid dividends in the second innings with Sulaiman Javed (3-38) and Muddassar Nawaz (3-35) restricting any longetivity in the Datchet partnerships.
At the end of the innings, Datchet could only muster up 212 runs before they were bowled all out in 36.4 overs.
