Sky Sports’ Jeff Stelling, who came to see his beloved Hartlepool United beat the Magpies 4-0 last October, said: “150 years at York Road – what an achievement that is and I have been there once. But I remember it so well because the greeting we got when we were was absolutely fantastic from literally all of the staff. It’s heartfelt when I say, 150 years you Magpies, hope you have a successful season and enjoy the anniversary.”
Heart radio presenter Toby Anstis tweeted his gratitude: “A huge thank you to my home town team Maidenhead United for the shirt. Good luck against Stockport County on Tuesday night, and proud to celebrate a record 150 years playing at the same ground. Fond memories of us Desborough College lads going to watch them play on a Saturday afternoon!”
Adam Summerton, football commentator for BT Sport, said: “Hi to everyone at Maidenhead United. Just wanted to wish you all a happy 150th anniversary. It’s not very often you get to say something like that is it? I always enjoy visiting York Road and I tell you what, I can’t wait to see it and hear it with supporters back in there again as soon as possible. For now, wherever you are, enjoy the anniversary and congratulations.”
Former Watford legend and England player, Luther Blissett, wished the Magpies well on the occasion: “Hi everyone, Luther here. Now, we haven’t had a great deal to celebrate over the last year have we? But we can all celebrate in the achievement of Maidenhead United [playing] 150 years at the stadium. It’s an amazing feat and something we can all be proud of because they’re all a big part of the football family. An old teammate of mine from my England days, Dev, is the manager there and he’s doing a super job. Let’s hope today could be a very special night against Stockport. There’s another Blissett there and hopefully we can have a say in the game. Let’s celebrate with Maidenhead United a magnificent achievement. Congratulations everyone.”
Clive Tyldesely, renowned sports broadcaster, reflected: "Happy Birthday Maidenhead United and Happy Anniversary. I lived in Maidenhead for many years, I've been to York Road a couple of times. I've passed it on the train, a couple of million times. Promotion in 2017 was very special, not just for you but for English football. For, essentially, a local community club to come up and rub shoulders with so many famous names of the National game and National League is absolutely outstanding. Good luck tonight, celebrate in style. I'll be on Champions League duty, but maybe one day? Why not. You're on the up."
